Brian Wilson started building the Flyer back in 1963, and over the years expanded his workshops in Bedhampton to the size they are today. When he was 12 years old his father had a houseboat on Hayling Island, and his first boat was a sailing dinghy. From here he moved to Cod fishing off Selsey, and has always been keen on Smoothhound and Tope. His best spot was a run near Dunnose Head at the back of the Isle of Wight. The Flyer became so popular from that he rarely had time to fish, running a large team to keep up with the demand for this incredible boat.
Wilson Flyer is now as always is family run business. Brian passed away in 2011, but his son, John Wilson, a keen fisher like his father, Sandra, Brians wife and ‘Dave the Boat Builder’ now man the helm and keep this amazing traditional pleasure craft supplied to the many loyal fans out there.
